Dr. Cristina Conati is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Cristina has been researching human-centered AI and AI-driven personalization for over 25 years, with contributions in the areas of Intelligent Tutoring Systems, User Modeling, Affective Computing, and Explainable AI. Cristina's research received 10 Best Paper Awards from various venues. She is an ACM Distinguished Member and a Senior Member of AAAI (Association for the Advancement of AI), and she serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education, the Journal of User Modeling and User Adapted Interaction and the ACM Transactions on Intelligent Interactive Systems.

Personalized, User-centred, Explainable AI for Education

Cristina will share her work of leveraging AI to provide personalized feedback in educational software, with a focus on her most recent research on making this feedback more transparent and understandable by enabling the AI system to explain why/how this feedback is generated. This research is in the context of the current topic of Explainable AI (XAI).
